CHRIST Icons These are icons that are the image of the invisible God, the representation of Christ, God incarnate, in lines and colours, showing us the Merciful Face of the Father.
The icon reveals God made Man.
“No one has ever seen God, but the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has revealed Him” (Jn 1:18).
The wooden base is primed according to the old methods.
We use only natural pigments and leaf gold for gilding.
Each icon has its own special story that opens the door to another, spiritual world.
Each icon is unique, so details and colours may vary slightly. Painting takes place in several stages. The base of the icon is prepared in the old way, made of wood, and often recessed.
The edges form a frame, marking another dimension of the divine presence.
The largest icon formats have one or two cross-trees to protect the icon from warping and cracking.
The wooden base is first covered with two layers of glue, then a layer of linen cloth, representing the corpse of Christ, and 12 thin layers of leucas.
Only then is the drawing applied, followed by the overlay of gold leaf in the designated places, representing the divine light.
When applying the colours, the painting uses the tempera technique, using only natural pigments and egg yolk emulsion, with natural materials forming the divine image – everything is real.
The layers of paint become more and more durable over time and the colours do not lose their brilliance over the years.
When the icon is finished, it is signed, that is, named.
